Our first day in Biloxi was very
successful. Our group of 10 went to two homes in Bay St. Louis
which is about 25 miles west of Biloxi. At the one home we prepared
the floors to install Pergo flooring on Tuesday. We caulked the
outside of the house and prepared for painting on Tuesday. We
met the home owner Miss Ruby and she told us when hurricane Katrina
struck the water was 28 feet high and her home was washed away.
Three months later she found her home one half mile away and the
people who owned the property claimed the house since it was on
their property. Miss Ruby took the homeowner to court and it took
three months to get her own home back. She was excited to see
that we were finishing the house and thanked everyone for giving
of their time to help her.
The other part of our group worked
on a home that was gutted and we had to square all the walls and
ceiling and prepare the walls for drywall. We installed soffit
and fascia and raised the front porch roof and installed new posts.
We caulked inside the house and fixed some of the framing that
was done incorrectly by a previous group.
We will be going back to the same
homes on Tuesday and will be assigned a third home. We will find
out Tuesday what is to be accomplished. A few of our folks cooked
breakfast for 45 people and some of the group will be cooking
dinner on Wednesday. Two of the members of our team will be working
at the soup kitchen two days and two people will be serving lunch
at the Salvation Army for the volunteers. As you can tell, we
have been very busy, and we still and have a full four days of
work to accomplish.
We are surprised at how many homes
still need work and how many vacant lots there are in the area.
We want you to know how much we appreciate the support you have
given us and know that we are helping several families regain
a part of their life that was lost. Continue to keep us in your
prayers.

mission team.
